Job Summary
The Senior Government Affairs Manager will lead the development, strategic management, and execution of the company's government affairs and public policy initiatives. This individual will serve as a key advisor to senior leadership, leveraging their deep policy expertise and extensive network to advocate for the company's interests. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with a proven track record of achieving policy outcomes and translating legislative and regulatory challenges into strategic opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Lead the formulation and execution of comprehensive, proactive government affairs strategies to support the company's long-term business objectives.
High-Level Advocacy: Serve as a principal advocate and representative for the company before senior government officials, legislative bodies, and regulatory agencies. Craft and deliver sophisticated messaging for high-stakes testimony, policy papers, and executive briefings.
Network & Relationship Management: Leverage and expand an extensive network of high-level, bipartisan relationships with key policymakers, their staff, regulators, and influencers within the industry.
Policy & Political Intelligence: Proactively identify, monitor, and provide in-depth analysis of complex legislative and regulatory trends, anticipating potential impacts and opportunities for the business.
Internal Strategic Counsel: Act as the primary government affairs partner and strategic advisor to internal business units and executive leadership. Provide timely, insightful counsel on how the political and policy environment affects business strategy, operations, and market access.
Coalition & Association Leadership: Represent the company in a leadership capacity within major trade associations and industry coalitions, shaping industry-wide policy positions and driving collective action.
Compliance & Reporting: Oversee the company's lobbying compliance program, ensuring all activities are conducted with the highest ethical standards and meet all legal reporting requirements.
Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to cross-functional colleagues on policy matters, fostering a deeper understanding of government affairs across the organization.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. An advanced degree (e.g., Master's, JD) is strongly preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related field. Must have a demonstrated track record of success in a corporate in-house role, a major trade association, a top-tier consulting firm, or a senior position within government.
Established Network: An extensive and active network of contacts within government (legislative and executive branches), industry associations, and policy circles relevant to the [Your Industry] industry.
